Scott Harriman Receives 2026 Maine Credit Union League President’s Award

The Maine Credit Union League’s President, Elise Baldacci, presented Scott Harriman, President and CEO, with the 2026 League President’s Award at the Elevate 2026 Conference. This honor is presented annually to a credit union professional who demonstrates outstanding leadership, service, and impact on the cooperative movement.

Since taking the helm in 1990, Harriman has guided CCFCU through decades of expansion and transformation. Under his leadership, the credit union has grown from $9 million in assets and a single branch into a $477 million institution with five branches, an operations center, and more than 22,000 members. His leadership has consistently focused on strengthening member service and expanding access to products and services.

His approach to leadership has also extended beyond the credit union through board service and broader industry involvement, reflecting his commitment to advancing the credit union movement as a whole. “One thing I have learned from Scott is to face issues head-on,” shared Baldacci. “Don’t be afraid to speak the truth and always do it in a way where people want to follow you rather than just listen to you.”

Harriman’s legacy will continue through the people he has mentored, the organization he has shaped, and the community he has strengthened over more than three decades of service. Congratulations to Scott Harriman on his award recognition, his retirement, and the lasting impact on Maine’s credit union movement.


President’s Message - A Final Note of Thanks

As I write this final newsletter message as President of CCFCU, I find myself filled with gratitude. Serving this credit union has been the greatest privilege of my life. Together, we have celebrated successes, weathered challenges, and built something truly special.

Over the years, I have had the opportunity to meet thousands of members, hear your stories, celebrate your milestones, and earn your trust. Those relationships have meant far more to me than I could ever put into words.  Thank you for your trust.

While it is bittersweet to step away from a role that has been such an important part of my life, I do so with tremendous confidence in the future of this credit union.

Thank you for allowing me to be part of your lives and for making this journey so rewarding. The friendships, memories, and experiences I have gained over the years will stay with me forever.

CCFCU raises $15,000 for Ending Hunger

We are excited to announce that more than 45 participants gathered on Wednesday, June 3rd, at 33 Elmwood in Westbrook for the 8th Annual Bag Toss Tournament. The event raised a record $15,080 for Maine Credit Unions' Campaign for Ending Hunger!

Deb Martin, Director of Training & Events, expressed deep gratitude, saying, “We truly couldn't do this without the heartfelt support and kindness from our community, credit unions, and industry partners. Your generous sponsorships, donations, and continued participation help us grow this event year after year. We are incredibly grateful. Together, we are making a difference to end hunger in Maine.”

Protect Your Accounts with Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

At Cumberland County FCU, keeping your financial information secure is one of our top priorities. As online banking continues to grow, so do the risks associated with unauthorized access. In October of 2025, multi-factor authentication was implemented to access It’s ME 247 as required by regulations, and it is one of the most effective ways to safeguard your account.

What Is Multi-Factor Authentication?

Multi-factor authentication adds an extra layer of security to your online banking login. Instead of relying solely on your password, MFA requires an additional form of verification, in the form of a one-time code sent to your phone or email.

By requiring more than one form of identification, MFA makes it significantly harder for fraudsters to access your account—even if they have your password.

Why MFA Matters

Passwords alone are no longer enough to keep accounts secure. Cybercriminals have become increasingly sophisticated, using techniques such as phishing emails, data breaches, and malware to obtain login information. MFA adds a critical second layer of protection that:

  • Reduces the risk of unauthorized access

  • Protects your personal and financial information

  • Provides peace of mind when banking online

Even if someone manages to obtain your password, they would still need the second authentication factor to gain access—something they are far less likely to have.

Remember to Save Your Device

To make your online banking experience both safe and convenient, you will have the option to save your trusted device when using MFA. Saving your device means you won’t need to complete the extra verification step every time you log in from that device.

However, for your continued security, you will need to re-save your device every 30 days. This periodic reset helps ensure that only devices you actively use remain trusted and reduces the risk of unauthorized access over time.

Tips for Staying Secure

  • Always enable MFA on any of your financial/personal applications

  • Save only personal, secure devices you trust

  • Avoid saving devices on shared or public computers

  • Keep your contact information up to date to receive authentication codes

  • Never share your MFA codes with anyone
